HEALTH CARE

HEALTH CARE

There is an urgent need for a new approach to ensure people can access timely care.

The people of our province want access to healthcare, not access to a waiting list.

The transformational change outlined in the Health Accord is taking too long. Immediate action must be taken on many issues.

Denying timely care not only harms suffering patients; it also drives health costs through the roof and hurts everyone.

Leadership demands action.

HOW I WILL LEAD:

  • Every Newfoundlander and Labradorian who so chooses will be registered with a primary care provider, without exception.
  • The 35 Family Health Care teams recommended by the Health Accord will be established within two years, not five.
  • Every student entering a course of study in a difficult-to-recruit health discipline must have an offer of employment at the beginning of their studies.
  • No one will have to pay out of pocket to access Primary Care providers, like Nurse Practitioners.
  • Medical transportation assistance will be boosted, so no one has to pay for out-of-region travel to access care.
  • Families will no longer be left to put their children on 24-to-36-month waitlists for vital pediatric care programs.
