Meet Tony

Experienced, driven, capable, team builder and MHA for Stephenville- Port au Port. His passion and commitment for the People of Newfoundland and Labrador has spanned over many years. He believes that government service must always be about PEOPLE, not politics!

Tony Wakeham was born in Placentia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Son of Mary and James Wakeham. Mary was a teacher and James worked on the Argentia Naval Base and also with Marine Atlantic. Tony went to Laval High School and then on to Memorial University where he graduated with a Degree in Economics.

 

EXPERIENCED AND CAPABLE

Tony is uniquely positioned with a background in both the public and private sectors. He has first-hand experience of the needs and desires of the public sector. Working for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, Tony held senior positions in health care, finance, and the Office of the Auditor General.

 

His public sector experience spans 30+ years. He has amassed years of financial and auditing expertise.

 

Along with his extensive public service background, Tony also has many years of successful business experience in the private sector.

 

His breath and depth of experiences have taken him to all regions of this province. He grew up in the southeast; worked in Labrador, Central and the Northeast; and now lives and serves the West, while standing and fighting today in the House of Assembly in the province’s capital.

 

Beyond his work experiences, Tony has been a volunteer leader at the National level and led in youth mentorship.

 

Tony was first elected to politics as an MHA in 2019 and was re-elected once again in 2021.

 

PASSIONATE AND COMMITTED

Tony’s commitment to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada has spanned over many years. He previously served as President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association and Basketball Canada and has led delegations of Canadian athletes worldwide.

Tony and his wife Patricia are proud to call Kippens their home. They enjoy spending time with their two adult children Stephanie and Christopher, along with their grandchildren Nico and Henry.
