St. John’s, NL (June 15, 2023)

Barry Petten (Opposition House Leader, and MHA, Conception Bay South) has officially announced that he is endorsing Tony Wakeham (MHA, Stephenville – Port au Port), to be the next leader of the PC Party and Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“After careful reflection and consideration, I’m proud to join Tony Wakeham on his journey to become the next leader of our party and Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Tony’s extensive experience and proven leadership make him the right leader to tackle our province’s most pressing issues. Right now, we need experience at the helm in the critical period that lies ahead for our province,” said Petten.

Petten notes that Wakeham showcased his remarkable ability to rally the party around a common vision in the House of Assembly when debating key issues such as the health care crisis and the soaring cost of living.

“A PC Party that is united under Tony Wakeham’s leadership sends a powerful message to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador—that we are a united front, ready to work collaboratively to build a brighter future for all.”

Barry Petten joins fellow PC MHAs Craig Pardy (Bonavista), Joedy Wall (Cape St. Francis), Pleaman Forsey (Exploits), and Loyola O’Driscoll (Ferryland) who have already previously publicly endorsed Wakeham.

Team Tony is expected to make further caucus endorsement announcements in the days ahead.
